Gwahumbe 4×4 Trail

About

The South African province of KwaZulu-Natal is home to many tourist attractions; which range from natural to historical and cultural. The countryside areas are pretty and plentiful, and attract local travellers as well as international visitors all year round. The climate is hot and humid in summer, and more temperate in the winter, making it a fabulous destination across the seasons.
The Gwahumbe 4x4 Trail is situated just an hour outside the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban. This metropolis is known for its deep Zulu culture, excellent Indian cuisine and seafood, and mile after mile of pristine beaches. It is also an adventurer’s paradise, and 4x4 trails are a popular pastime.
Gwahumbe 4x4 Trail is a nine kilometre trail that has a grading of between one and three. As such, it takes between two and four hours to complete. This is a self-drive route that comprises a number of different trails through the game reserve. It comprises muddy areas, slippery grasses and river crossings. Although drivers can tackle it alone (that is, with no formal guide) all year around, they should exercise caution after heavy rains. There are well thought-out obstacles in place to challenge drivers and add excitement to the trails.
In addition, there is a training route at Gwahumbe for those that want to improve their skills and gain some experience.
Because this trail is situated within the beautiful Gwahumbe Game Reserve, those venturing out onto the trails can look forward to seeing some excellent plant and animal life. There are riverine valleys, extensive grasslands and breath-taking cliffs. Those in the vehicles should looks out for hippos, rhinos, giraffes and a variety of antelope species. Formal game drives through the reserve are on offer; as are nature walks, biking trails and tranquil spots from which to go fishing.
